The Lord takes some people on a long and winding road. Kevin Bolen grew up in a church-going home in South Carolina, but it was in a Chicago church that the Lord used a preacher from Tennessee to bring him to saving faith in Jesus.
Mr. Bolen’s new heart felt a call to service, and in response to that call he moved to St. Louis. He spent two years tutoring, mentoring, and developing enrichment activities for elementary and middle schoolers in the city public school system. It was there that Mr. Bolen met and married his bride, a good Southern girl from the mountains of North Carolina. After several years of spiritual growth in an urban church plant, the Bolens felt a pull back to the Carolinas to be closer to family, and through a series of “coincidences,” they arrived here in Columbia so Mr. Bolen could earn the college degree that he neglected to pursue at the more traditional time in a person’s life.
Mr. Bolen received his B.A. in Humanities and Bible from Columbia International University and followed that with a general M.A. at CIU’s seminary. He came to Covenant in 2008 to teach middle school Literature and Grammar classes and high school Bible classes. During that time, Mr. Bolen grew to love the students, families, faculty, and staff that make up the Covenant community. He has taken every opportunity to get more deeply involved in the ministry that the Lord is doing here at Covenant and in people’s lives. Mr. Bolen was selected by the Covenant School Board In 2014 to step into the leadership role he now holds. He looks forward to being a part of the Lord’s plan to build His Kingdom in the hearts of students and in the world through the work of their hands.
Mr. Bolen and his wife Gretchen hold membership at Columbia Presbyterian Church and have three children, Tabitha, Silas, and Joanna, who all attend Covenant.
